Located at Place du Châtelet,  this column with its golden Winged Victory commemorates a number of Napoleon's victorious battles.  Behind the  column is the Tour St-Jacques. Built between 1509 and 1523 and  named for St. James the Great, it survived the French Revolution in 1797. In the mid-seventeeth century it was used by physicist Blaise Pascal as a laboratory for atmospheric pressure experiments.
